Procedures
At IMC we perform circumcision by various methods. The Plastibell method is used for babies, infants and young boys; the Forceps Guided method is more suited to adult men. Another method that is sometimes used is the Sleeve Resection method. The method we use depends on the age of the patient and size of the glans, however some parents may want to have their son circumcised the traditional method which we can also do.
Plastibell for infants
The Plastibell method we use for babies and young boys is a quick, straightforward method of foreskin removal with minimum amount of blood (many paediatric doctors prefer this method for these reason). An anaesthetic spray and local anaesthetic injection is administered then a plastic ring is inserted under the foreskin, around the glans.
The excess skin is then trimmed from around the edge of the ring. The remaining ring and foreskin will fall off naturally after 1-2 weeks (depending on the age of the child) as the blood flow is restricted.
The whole Plastibell procedure takes less than 10 minutes and causes minimal pain in comparison to other circumcision techniques.
The great benefit of the Plastibell method is that it requires no stitching, no dressings and there will be no bleeding. The wound is sealed by the ring so the risk of infection is minimal and you are left with a neat, almost invisible scar which will fade further over time.

Forceps Guided for Older boys and Adults
The Forceps Guided circumcision is used for older boys and adults. In this method first an anaesthetic spray and local anaesthetic injection are applied to reduce the pain. The foreskin is eased out in front of the glans with surgical forceps. The required length of foreskin is then simply removed with a scalpel.
It is advisable to consult one of our doctors before undergoing the operation. The appointment for the consultation can be made the same day as the operation. No additional fees will be charged for the consultation if followed by the procedure.
Afterwards, it is advisable to take a few days off work to fully recover and allow the wound to heal.

Sleeve Resection Method
In this method the foreskin is slid back along the shaft and a freehand cut is made around the shaft as far back as the scar line is to be placed. The foreskin is returned to cover the glans and another cut is made around the shaft at the same position along its length. A longitudinal cut is made between the two circumferential ones and the strip of skin is removed. The edges are then pulled together and stitched.
