Reflexology
The ancient art of reflexology has been known to man for many thousands of years. It was first practiced by the early Indian, Chinese and Egyption people. The therapy, however, was introduced to the west in 1913 by Dr. William Fitzgerald. It was further developed in the 1930's y Eunice Ingham who observed that congestion or tension in any part of the foot mirrors the same in a corresponding part of the body.
Reflexology is the practice of massaging, squeezing, or pushing on parts of the feet or sometimes the hands and ears, with the goal of encouraging a beneficial effect on other parts of the body, or to improve general health and wellbeing.
How it works
Reflexology is a holistic therapy which means that ailments and conditions are not singled out and treated individually, but the whole foot is worked on and the reflexes for the whole body are then stimulated.
What reflexology can do for you
- activate the bodies own natural healing ability
- de-stress and deeply relax you
- help normalise organ and gland function
- help rid the body of toxins and impurities
- remove congestion and blockages from energy pathways
- assist in the removal of waste material from the body
- promote the unblocking of the nerve impulses
About the treatment
In the feet there are many reflex areas corresponding to different parts of the body. The therapist will take a detailed medical history and examine the feet in order to identify areas which would benefit from more precise therapy. All areas on both feet will be massaged and the treatment can last up to an hour leaving the patient feeling very relaxed and calm.
Many disorders have been found to respond positively to reflexology treatment, including migraine, sinus problems, hormonal imbalances, breathing problems, digestive complaints (including irritable bowel), constipation, circulation problems, back problems, tension and stress.
